Polaroid Corp. of Cambridge, MA, and Enron Energy Servicessigned a 10-year outsource agreement for Enron to provide energymanagement services at Polaroid’s seven major U.S. facilities. Thedeal is worth more than $200 million. Enron will manage or supplyPolaroid’s energy commodity requirements including electricity, gasand fuel oil; design, build, operate and finance certain energyinfrastructure improvement projects; as well as provide alloperation and maintenance services at Polaroid’s three centralmanufacturing plants in Massachusetts: Waltham, New Bedford andNorwood. “Enron will drive energy savings for Polaroid by managingtheir commodity usage, investing capital to upgrade or replacePolaroid’s energy equipment and by providing best in classoperation and maintenance services,” said Lou Pai, Enron EnergyServices CEO. Enron will offer positions to the 20 Polaroidemployees in the company’s Operation and Maintenance team.

BP Signs Pact with Alaska; FTC Still Awaits

Alaska Gov. Tony Knowles and BP Amoco signed a major agreementlast week that clears the way in the state for the oil giant’sproposed acquisition of Atlantic Richfield Co. But still awaitingBP Amoco is its biggest nemesis — the Federal Trade Commission(FTC), where the merger reportedly has run into a serious snag overantitrust concerns. BP Amoco is hoping the Alaska deal, which callsfor the largest divestiture of production assets in the state’shistory, will help it score some points with the agency.

Reliant Picks Up NJ Resources Contracts

Reliant Energy Retail Inc., announced yesterday the purchase ofall New Jersey Natural Energy’s (NJNE) commercial gas contracts.The actual agreement was signed last week, NJNE said, and customeraccounts are already switching to Reliant. Neither the number ofpurchased accounts nor the financial terms of the transaction weredisclosed. The two companies said the transition will be seamless.

ANR Pipeline signed agreements with Wisconsin Public ServiceCorp. (WPSC) that will result in the extension to 2010 of firmnatural gas transportation and storage service agreements that werescheduled to expire over the next three years. “These contractextensions reinforce the strong relationship that Wisconsin PublicService and ANR have shared for many years,” said Jeffrey A.Connelly, president and CEO of ANR and senior vice president,natural gas, of parent Coastal Corp. “Wisconsin Public Service isconfident these contracts will continue to provide our customerswith reliable natural gas service at competitive rates into thenext millennium,” said Patrick D. Schrickel, president and chiefoperating officer of Wisconsin Public Service Corporation. Theagreements are subject to regulatory approvals. WPSC is acombination gas and electric utility serving about 225,000 gascustomers and 380,000 electric customers in an 11,000-square-mileservice territory in Wisconsin and upper Michigan.
