Alaska LNG Exports to Japan to Cease

This spring will see the end of shipments of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Kenai, AK, to Japan, at least for a while. ConocoPhillips, 70% owner and operator of the Kenai LNG terminal, is mothballing the facility after more than 40 years of operation due to poor conditions in the Asian LNG market.

Sempra Energy senior officials were popping superlatives, if not champagne corks, Friday, celebrating the first shipments for their liquefied natural gas (LNG) West Coast project and the western half of the Rockies Express Pipeline, along with an increase in first-quarter net income compared to the same period in 2007 ($242 million, or 92 cents/share, versus $228 million, or 86 cents/share, last year).

El Paso Estimates 15% of Gas Flows Still Shut In Post-Katrina

Pipeline damage, third-party processing limitations and reduced shipments from some offshore producers following the massive hurricanes three months ago still prevent about 15% of El Paso Corp.’s natural gas pipeline flows, the company reported Thursday. Total flows on El Paso’s Tennessee Gas Pipeline, Southern Natural Gas and ANR Pipeline systems remained down as of Dec. 16 by 770 MMcf/d out of the 4.97 Bcf/d flowing before Hurricane Katrina struck Aug. 29.

Marathon’s Equatorial Guinea LNG Export Plant Scheduled for 2007 Deliveries

Marathon Oil said Friday that it remains on track to begin first shipments of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from its plant in Equatorial Guinea in the fourth quarter of 2007. The LNG project will produce a minimum of 3.4 million metric tonnes per year and all of the supply is under a 17-year agreement with BG Gas Marketing Ltd, which will bring most of it to the LNG import terminal in Lake Charles, LA.

Lawmaker Attacks Subsidies for Project to Promote LNG Shipments to West Coast

A $2 billion subsidy to help finance the construction of a new natural gas liquefaction facility and tankers to transport LNG to West Coast markets has been folded into a massive omnibus spending package that the House is expected to take up Monday (Dec. 8), according to Rep. Edward Markey (D-MA). A Senate vote on the $820 billion appropriations bill may not come until late January.
