Prices See Double-Digit Gains Across the Board

Getting a big boost from the jump of 21.7 cents by May futures going into the holiday weekend, spot prices rose by double-digit amounts at all points Monday. Increases in cooling load across the South and some residual heating demand in parts of the West, as well as the return of industrial load following a long holiday weekend, also contributed to the cash bullishness.

All Points Drop as Heating Load Wanes Further

The general weather moderation in most areas had proven puzzling Tuesday when most points rose a few cents, but it appeared that logical behavior had returned to the market Wednesday as prices fell across the board. The previous day’s futures decline of 1.1 cent, while minuscule, was an added slightly bearish factor in the cash market.

Alliance Pipeline has completed construction of a new interconnect facility near Bantry, ND, connecting its system to Pecan Pipeline’s Prairie Rose Pipeline and providing a route for natural gas and natural gas liquids (NGL) to travel from the Bakken Shale to the Chicago hub, the Calgary-based company said.

Traders Seek Weather Break Before Selling; January Gains 10.6 Cents

January natural gas futures rose in modest trading Wednesday as traders still saw the market in control of the weather bulls and expressed reluctance to sell until weather forecasts turned more moderate. At the close January futures were up 10.6 cents to $5.821 and February added 11.2 cents to $5.884. February crude oil gained $2.27 to $76.67/bbl.
