Cash Scores Double-Digit Gains, But Futures Struggle

Cash prices continued to romp higher by another 15 cents Tuesday, led by weather-driven strength along the Eastern Seaboard. Large price gains typically seen on constrained New England pipelines such as Algonquin and Iroquois were also seen throughout the Northeast on Transco, Texas Eastern and Tennessee.

Profit-Taking Ends Bulls’ Romp; More Weakness Possible, But Only Short-Run

Ending a five-day, one-dollar price spike, natural gas futures filtered lower Tuesday as traders alleviated overbought conditions and hedged against the possibility of a smaller-than-expected storage withdrawal report Thursday. Cash prices and crude oil futures, both of which have been supportive lately, turned lower Tuesday, pulling the natural gas futures market along with it.

Lehman’s Driscoll: For a Week, Bulls Will Romp

After completing a week that saw a drawn-out, cross-country heat wave and production losses due to Tropical Storm Barry, Lehman Brothers’ Thomas Driscoll said it is “likely” that this week’s natural gas storage announcement could provide the lowest gas injection rates since April. He estimates that this week’s storage report will reveal total injections last week of about 65 Bcf — 10 Bcf lower than the company’s previous estimate.
