Just days after a federal judge dismissed a lawsuit filed last year by New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, the official hinted that he could file another lawsuit if natural gas drilling moves forward in the Delaware River Basin.

FERC has approved Southern Natural Gas Co. LLC’s (SNG) request to abandon nearly 20 miles of pipeline and associated facilities in Alabama to comply with a correction action order issued by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) to address the hazards associated with wrinkle bends, which led to a failure on SNG’s system in late 2009.

Portland General Electric Co. (PGE) said Monday that its recent request for proposals (RFP) for power generating resources, including several hundred megawatts of natural gas-fired baseload power, has resulted in 32 bids from 15 different projects, totaling more than 9,000 MW. Oregon state regulators are scheduled to discuss the draft RFP at a public meeting Sept. 25.

FERC Friday approved El Paso Natural Gas Co.’s request for a presidential permit to build border-crossing facilities at the international boundary between the United States and Mexico to export natural gas to northern Mexico for its expanding power generation market.

FERC has approved a request to place into service a fourth storage cavern at the Southern Pines Energy Center in eastern Mississippi. The project originally was proposed by Houston-based SG Resources Mississippi LLC, but it was acquired by PAA Natural Gas Storage LP (PNG) for $750 million in early 2011 (see Daily GPI, Dec. 30, 2010).
