Apache Corp. said last week its recent equity offering has raised net proceeds of $433.9 million to fund this year’s acquisitions, including Occidental Petroleum’s interests in the Gulf of Mexico. So far, the company has announced or completed cash acquisitions totaling $860 million this year alone.

NiSource Raises Bid, Offers Richard Board Seat

NiSource finally sweetened its unsolicited offer for Columbia Energy Group with a $74/share ($6.1 billion) bid last week — up from the prior offer of $68/share. It also laid down an olive branch by inviting five of Columbia’s top managers, including CEO Oliver G. “Rick” Richard, to take seats on an expanded NiSource board. Richard was offered a vice chairmanship.

BT Alex. Brown Raises Price, Earnings Forecasts

BT Alex. Brown analyst Adam Sieminski said he expects U.S. gasprices to average $2.10/MMBtu this year, which is up 15 cents fromhis previous forecast of $1.95/MMBtu, because of rising demand,declining wellhead deliverability and the falling storage surpluscompared to last year. Sieminski said the tightness in marketfundamentals will peak this winter and carry strong prices throughnext year. He raised his forecast for prices in 2000 to $2.40 froma previous estimate of $2.20.

The Energy Information Administration joined that crowdlast week, raising its wellhead price forecast for the fourthquarter 25 cents to $2.41/Mcf.

The Energy Information Administration joined that crowdyesterday, concluding its wellhead price forecast for the fourthquarter was 25 cents too low. It raised it to $2.41/Mcf in its MayShort Term Energy Outlook.
