Lehman Survey Shows Flat 2004 U.S. E&P Spending

A survey of a large number of exploration and production companies by Lehman Brothers indicates that E&P spending next year will be flat to down slightly in the United States and Canada but up about 6.1% internationally as the majors continue to look overseas. Worldwide E&P spending, based on a survey of 335 companies, is expected to grow 4% to $144.3 billion, the survey found.

Transportation Notes

Production from Dominion’s “wet” gathering system that was being delivered off-system to Equitrans at the Copley and West Union interconnect meters must be shut in immediately, Dominion said shortly after the start of Wednesday’s gas day. “At this point, we do not know when deliveries can resume.” The pipeline has had mixed success in trying to move to Equitrans wet system gas upstream of Hastings (WV) Extraction Plant that was shut in after an Oct. 31 explosion and fire at the plant (see Daily GPI, Nov. 18).

In an effort to continue to accommodate producers’ current production and future drilling plans, Dallas-based Crosstex Energy LP recently completed a significant capacity expansion at its Gregory Processing Plant north of Corpus Christi, TX. The company noted that with natural gas volumes coming into the system at record levels and significant new volumes on the horizon, the plant expansion was necessary.

Sonat reported an unscheduled outage on Logansport Field Line 43 upstream of Logansport Compressor Station in the North Louisiana production area. As a result of the force majeure event, the pipeline said, no nominations from the Logansport Oxy R/S 4 receipt point were being accepted Friday until further notice.

Industry Briefs

Berry Petroleum Co. has completed its $48.6 million purchase of Uinta Basin properties from Williams Production RMT Co. The properties, located in the Brundage Canyon in northeastern Utah, currently are producing 1,800 net boe/d. Berry estimates the 43,500 acres have proved reserves of 8.6 million boe, comprised of 75% light oil and 25% natural gas. The company said it had identified more than 50 proved undeveloped locations and 25 behind pipe recompletions within the productive area of the field. The Bakersfield, CA-based independent also announced that Logan Magruder has joined the company as vice president of the Rocky Mountain and Mid-Continent Region. Magruder held similar positions with Calpine Corp. and Barrett Resources, and has served as a consultant for Berry since Feb. 2003.
