Utah Adopts Sage Grouse Conservation Plan

Utah Gov. Gary Herbert on Wednesday said his state has completed a conservation plan to preserve greater sage grouse in his state, protecting more than 90% of the state’s species through a combination of incentives and “reasonable” regulation.

In last Thursday’s story titled “Senate Amendment Would Preserve FERC’s Market Authority” (see Daily GPI, May 20), NGI incorrectly stated that both the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission carried out legal action against Amaranth Advisors LLC and its principal over the manipulation of gas futures prices in 2006. Both agencies have carried out legal action only against Amaranth Advisors LLC. NGI regrets the error.

Canadian Discussion Paper Warns Regulators to Preserve LDC Merchant Function

Canadian regulators should avoid forcing gas utilities out of the regulated merchant function, according to a new discussion paper by Roland George of consulting firm Purvin and Gertz. “System gas and direct sales gas can co-exist in the retail market,” George said. The paper was released recently by the Conference Board of Canada and Canadian Gas Association (CGA), which represents Canada’s local distribution companies (LDC).
