Maritimes Plans Expansion, Eyes Further Growth

Days after receiving preliminary authorization from FERC for a $134 million, 24-mile Boston extension project (see Daily GPI, April 16), Maritimes & Northeast is petitioning FERC for authorization to operate additional compression units at its existing compressor stations in Richmond and Baileyville, ME. The new compression will bring the pipeline’s capacity to 440,000 Dth/d from the current 400,000 Dth/d.

Burlington Reports 5% 1Q Boost in Production

Houston-based Burlington resources reported on Monday that its preliminary estimates for first quarter 2001 average daily natural gas production is up by 5% over fourth quarter 2000 levels to 2 Bcf/d. The company attributed the increase primarily to its Canadian operations.

Southern LNG’s proposed enhancements to its Elba Islandvaporization facilities were granted preliminary approval onnon-environmental grounds by FERC last week. Southern plans toremove five existing vaporizers and replace them with moreefficient ones, resulting in 135 MMcf/d of increased send-outcapability.

Southern LNG’s proposed enhancements to its Elba Islandvaporization facilities were granted preliminary approval onnon-environmental grounds by FERC yesterday. Southern plans toremove five existing vaporizers and replace them with moreefficient ones, resulting in increased send-out capability to 675MMcf/d from 540 MMcf/d at a cost of $14 million. Southern’s onlycapacity holder, El Paso Merchant Energy, will pick up the tab.

Early Survey Shows Production 0.5% Below 2Q1999 Levels

A preliminary survey of second quarter financial reports from 25 producers reveals a 0.5% decline in U.S. gas production compared to 2Q99. Out of 25 producers, 14 reported lower production and five of those showed double digit drops. Pioneer Resources, Ocean Energy, Union Pacific and Kerr McGee showed the largest U.S. production declines on a percentage basis.

Gulfstream Signs Landfall Agreement

After both projects received preliminary approval from FERC over a month ago, the ongoing race to Florida accross the Gulf of Mexico between Coastal Corp.’s Gulfstream Natural Gas System and Williams and Duke Energy’s Buccaneer pipeline is heating up again (see NGI, May 1). Gulfstream yesterday announced it signed a multi-million dollar deal with the Manatee County Port Authority for a permanent right-of-way easement to cross through Port Manatee
