FERC last week issued a favorable preliminary determination on non-environmental issues to Northwest Pipeline’s proposed 49-mile Grays Harbor Lateral, which would deliver up to 161,500 Dth/d of gas to Duke Energy Grays Harbor LLC’s proposed power plant in the state of Washington. The $75.2 million pipeline project includes two 16-inch diameter taps and would have 4,700 hp of compression from the Turnwater Station.

Northwest’s Grays Harbor Lateral Gets PD from FERC
FERC issued a favorable preliminary determination on non-environmental grounds Wednesday to Northwest Pipeline’s proposed 49-mile Grays Harbor Lateral, which would deliver up to 161,500 Dth/d of gas to Duke Energy Grays Harbor LLC’s proposed power plant in the state of Washington. FERC Grants PD for Tuscarora Lateral, Approves Northern Abandonment
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) last week issued a favorable preliminary determination on non-environmental grounds to Tuscarora Gas Transmission’s Wadsworth Lateral, a 14.2-mile pipeline extension and associated facilities that would increase Tuscarora’s transportation capacity by 95,912 Dth/d. The lateral would extend from Tuscarora’s mainline in northern Washoe County, NV, to an interconnect with Pauite Pipeline in Nevada.

Daggett-to-Ehrenberg Lateral Gets Preliminary Thumbs Down
It now appears less likely that El Paso Natural Gas will be placing new bi-directional gas transportation capacity between Daggett, CA, and Ehrenberg, AZ, to facilitate increased in-state California transportation options. The pipeline intended to use portions of the converted All American pipeline to increase capacity between the two major western market locations, but a binding open season revealed insufficient market interest, El Paso said in a bulletin board notice.

Industry Briefs
Denver-based MarkWest Hydrocarbon Inc. announced preliminary results for three new gas wells in which it holds interests. In eastern Michigan, the Sims 2-7 well was successfully recompleted, testing at 4.4 MMcf/d of sour gas and 400 bbl/d of condensate and natural gas liquids. The well is the second to be connected to the Au Gres gas plant, modified by MarkWest and its partners in 2000. The well is scheduled to be on production by mid-July. In western Michigan, MarkWest and its partners have made two gas discoveries. The previously drilled Victory 32, in which MarkWest owns 8.5%, successfully tested before being shut in for pipeline connection. The reef play is only a few miles from the company’s sour gas pipeline. The third well, the Victory 21, in which MarkWest holds a 14.6% interest, found a reef and is shut in awaiting equipment to complete and test the well.
Companion Projects of Maritimes, Algonquin Get FERC Nod
Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline and Algonquin Gas Transmission last week were awarded preliminary determinations (PD) on non-environmental issues by FERC to build their companion pipeline extensions that will provide Maritimes’ shippers greater access to northeastern markets via Algonguin, as well as will give new and existing Algonquin customers access to a new supply source-Atlantic Canadian gas-on Maritimes.
Maritimes Plans Expansion, Eyes Further Growth
Days after receiving preliminary authorization from FERC for a $134 million, 24-mile Boston extension project (see NGI, April 16), Maritimes & Northeast is petitioning FERC for authorization to operate additional compression units at its existing compressor stations in Richmond and Baileyville, ME. The new compression will bring the pipeline’s capacity to 440,000 Dth/d from the current 400,000 Dth/d.
