Washington state regulators on Friday approved a settlement, paving the way for natural gas and electricity retail utility rate increases for Spokane, WA-based Avista Utilities, effective Dec. 1.

Court Approves NEGT’s Reorganization Plan

The U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maryland, Greenbelt Division has approved National Energy & Gas Transmission Inc.’s (NEGT) plan of reorganization, paving the way for the power generation, marketing and pipeline company to emerge from bankruptcy in the next couple months. The company expects the plan to become effective by the end of May or early June.

Coral Signs LNG Terminal Service Deal with CMS

CMS Trunkline LNG Co. announced an agreement with Shell Oil’s Coral Energy Resources yesterday, paving the way for the CMS subsidiary to provide firm terminal service for 13 of Coral’s LNG cargoes in 2000 and 2001. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. The first cargo is scheduled for delivery in January 2000.

Energy East Corp., parent of New York State Electric &Gas, offered to buy Connecticut Energy Corp. (CNE) for $617 million Friday, paving the way for the combined utility to add 160,000 new gas customers and at the same time continuing to shrink the number of pure gas utilities. The board of directors for each company has agreed to the deal.
