Shell Canada Hikes ’07 Investment Spending by 48%

Shell Canada Ltd., targeted for a buyout by parent Royal Dutch Shell plc, is nearly doubling its investment spending in 2007 to C$4 billion ($3.5 billion) from the C$2.7 billion set aside this year. About one-quarter of the spending will be directed toward natural gas projects.

Shell Canada Ltd., targeted for a buyout by parent Royal Dutch Shell plc, is nearly doubling its investment spending in 2007 to C$4 billion ($3.5 billion) from C$2.7 billion set aside this year. More than C$3.6 billion is directed for capital expenditures, and another C$400 million is tagged for related exploration and pre-development expenses.

Scottish Power Shares Soar on Potential Sale

Shares of Glasgow-based Scottish Power PLC, parent company of Portland, OR-based wind power, marketing and storage company PPM Energy, jumped to a new 52-week high on the New York Stock Exchange last Wednesday after the company said that it received a potential buyout offer. On Friday Spanish power company Iberdrola confirmed that it is looking at potential deals with Scottish Power and “other alternatives.”

Western Gas and Anadarko Almost One

Western Gas Resources Inc. of Denver said last week the Wyoming Public Service Commission (PSC) approved its application to transfer control (at the ultimate parent level) of Mountain Gas Transportation Inc. and MGTC Inc. from Western to Anadarko Petroleum Corp. This was the last remaining regulatory approval required prior to the closing of the merger of Western with a subsidiary of Anadarko (see NGI, June 26).
