Hopeful that it is seeing the final months of a moratorium on high-volume hydraulic fracturing (HVHF) tick away in New York, Norse Energy Corp. ASA — a company that, like many others, has suffered through years of uncertainty at the hands of the delay — is positioning itself to hit the ground running in the Marcellus and Utica shales.

A new joint venture formed by Crestwood Midstream Partners LP and Crestwood Holdings Partners LLC has acquired a Marcellus Shale gathering system in northern West Virginia owned by Antero Resources Appalachian Corp., the companies announced Monday.

Antero Resources has acquired from CONSOL Energy a 7% overriding royalty interest in approximately 115,647 net acres in the Marcellus Shale in southwestern Pennsylvania and north central West Virginia for $193 million, the companies said Monday. The deal closed Sept. 21 with an effective date of July 1, 2011.

Maryland Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler Friday filed a suit in federal district court challenging the Department of Commerce’s decision overriding the state’s efforts to block AES Sparrows Point LLC’s proposed 1.5 Bcf/d liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal and pipeline east of the Port of Baltimore.

Calgary-based Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. said Wednesday it will sell a “large” portion of its overriding royalty interests in several producing properties throughout Western Canada and Ontario for C$345 million to reduce long-term debt and to help finance its fledgling Horizon Oil Sands Project.
