In response to “numerous requests” for new storage service due to the fully subscribed status of its existing firm storage services, Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline Inc. has launched an open season to solicit binding bids for new firm service in the Midcontinent.

Transportation Notes

Northwest reported encountering numerous difficulties due to terrain conditions in the rerouting of its 22-inch diameter mainline near Boise, ID. As a result, the corresponding outage has been moved from Wednesday of this week to Nov. 18, and in an effort to reduce customer impacts, Northwest has also rescheduled a Lava Hot Springs Compressor Station engine exchange to Nov. 18-19. Anomaly investigations between the Cisco and Moab compressor stations are still under evaluation, the pipeline said. At this time Northwest does not anticipate any customer impacts related to this project but said that if this outlook should change, it will notify customers as soon as possible.

Futures Soar on Concerns that Gustav is the ‘Real Deal’

After numerous dress rehearsals during this 2008 Atlantic hurricane season, Hurricane Gustav’s predicted path could land the system squarely into the oil and natural gas patch of the Gulf of Mexico as a Category Three hurricane on Saturday or Sunday. The news was enough to light a fire under natural gas bulls, who pushed the September contract higher on Tuesday to close at $8.278, up 45.3 cents from Monday’s finish.

CEGT Seeks Interest in Carthage to Perryville Pipeline Expansion

To keep up with increased production volumes coming out of the numerous unconventional plays in Texas and Louisiana, CenterPoint Energy subsidiary CenterPoint Energy Gas Transmission Co. (CEGT) is holding a nonbinding 31-day open season to gauge market interest in an additional expansion of its 1.5 Bcf/d, 42-inch Carthage to Perryville (Line CP) pipeline through looping and additional compression.

After suffering numerous outages at some generation plants in the past, Rapid City, SD-based Black Hills Corp. enjoyed a 96% availability rate among its electric generation plants and increased its energy trading profits during the second quarter, executives said Friday. Black Hills released greatly improved quarterly financial results on Thursday.
