In response to “numerous requests” for new storage service due to the fully subscribed status of its existing firm storage services, Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline Inc. has launched an open season to solicit binding bids for new firm service in the Midcontinent.

In response to the requests over the last few years from current and prospective customers, Southern Star said it has determined that it can construct facilities to expand its existing storage capacity by a minimum of five million Dth, with an increase in daily deliverability of a minimum of 50,000 Dth/d.

Parties can submit binding bids until 5 p.m. CST on Feb. 20. Interested parties may access open season information on its electronic bulletin board at: https://csi.sscgp.com under the “Open Season Information” tab in the Public Area.

“Additional firm storage service will reduce natural gas price volatility for Southern Star’s existing and future customers, and enhance gas supply management, flexibility and liquidity for shippers,” said Southern Star CEO Jerry Morris. “The Midcontinent region has exhibited a growing appetite for new storage, and we believe this expansion is a great first step towards satisfying that appetite.”

Responses to the open season will help determine if market demand economically justifies a storage service expansion project, the company said, adding that it will notify customers that have submitted binding bids of its decision regarding any expansion of storage facilities as soon as possible following the deadline for bid submission.

Owensboro, KY-based Southern Star Central is an interstate natural gas transmission system spanning more than 6,000 miles in the Midwest and Midcontinent regions. The company’s pipeline facilities are in Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Missouri, Wyoming, Colorado and Texas.
