Talisman Makes Big Gas Finds in BC; Earnings Tumble on UK Taxes

Big North American gas finds have been few and far between in recent years, but Talisman Energy Inc. continues to have great success in the Monkman area of northeastern British Columbia. The company announced another successful deep well in the Monkman Paleozoic that tested at a gross rate of 42 MMcf/d. It also announced two successful Triassic gas wells with gross raw rates of 30 MMcf/d and 16 MMcf/d in the same area.

AccuWeather.com Warns Northeast to Be Colder, Snowier This Winter

The Northeastern United States this winter is in for colder-than-normal temperatures, while west of the Continental Divide is expected to see milder-than-normal conditions, according to the Winter Forecast released by AccuWeather.com’s Long Range Forecast Team, led by Chief Meteorologist Joe Bastardi.

Shell Canada Doubles Tight Sands Gas Holdings in Canada

Shell Canada announced that it has acquired 58,000 acres of land in northeastern British Columbia for $85 million, providing exploration and development prospects in the deep basin area. The company said the purchase doubles its holdings of tight sands, or basin-centered, gas resources in Canada, and illustrates the need to focus more on unconventional plays because of maturing conventional resources.

Pioneer to Expand Alaska Exploration, Ups Budget

Pioneer Natural Resources Co. is poised to become the third largest net land holder in Alaska following its announcement Thursday to expand its existing acreage on the North Slope. As part of a wide-sweeping plan, the Dallas-based producer is launching a joint exploration program in the first quarter with co-owners ConocoPhillips and Anadarko Petroleum Corp., with an eye on establishing a new core division in the state.

New Talisman Well in BC Expected to Produce 40 MMcf/d

Talisman Energy made a major natural gas find in northeastern British Columbia. A successful Paleozoic gas well in its core Monkman area tested at a restricted rate of 40 MMcf/d with maximum open flow potential of more than 75 MMcf/d. The company said the well, 20% of which is owned by Seneca Energy Canada Inc., should begin production at 40 MMcf/d by January.
