Nominates

President Bush on Thursday designated Commissioner Sharon Brown-Hruska to serve as acting chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), effective July 24, and announced his intent to nominate her for a second term on the CFTC.

In an attempt to short-circuit a bitter proxy battle by disgruntled investors, El Paso Corp. on Monday nominated a slate of directors that is heavy in energy experience for shareholders to vote on at the company’s upcoming annual meeting in June.

Ending months of doubt over the fate of a FERC designee, the White House has re-nominated Joseph T. Kelliher to one of two vacant seats on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Kelliher, a senior policy advisor at the Department of Energy (DOE), would succeed former Commissioner Linda K. Breathitt, whose term expired in December.

After nearly an eight-month wait, President Bush officially has nominated Joseph T. Kelliher to a five-year term on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, putting to rest persistent reports that his nomination was in jeopardy. Kelliher will replace current Commissioner Linda K. Breathitt whose term expires June 30 of this year, a White House spokeswoman said.
