In the report on the adjournment of the FERC hearing investigating alleged market affiliate abuses by El Paso Natural Gas and its affiliates, which ran in NGI’s Daily Gas Price Index for Tuesday, Aug. 7: Note El Paso executives did not refuse to respond to questions from Judge Wagner. El Paso attorneys declined to put the executives on the stand — which would have subjected them to questions from the California Public Utilities Commission and others — as part of the case, saying El Paso’s case was closed. The attorneys said, however, the executives were willing to respond to the judge’s questions. Wagner did not ask any questions.

Hebert: CA Interstate, Intrastate Capacity Gap Widens

In his latest review of the California market, FERC Chairman Curt Hebert said that while the levels of interstate natural gas pipeline capacity and intrastate capacity serving the state have risen since the start of the year, the gap between the two has grown even wider and could serve to further constrain delivery points there.

Remote Tropical Depression Psychs Prices Higher

The cash market continued to confound some people with its renewed strength Thursday, which several traders said appeared to be primarily psychological and associated with the appearance of a tropical depression in the mid-Atlantic. A screen gain of nearly 9 cents also provided support, and despite dwindling air conditioning load in other areas, power generation demand remained strong in the South.

Bolivian Consortium May Export LNG to West Coast

The gas-thirsty U.S. market is drawing comers from around the world, with another consortium at work to export Bolivian liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the U.S. West Coast. France’s TotalFina Elf, Spain’s Repsol YP, Britain’s BP and British Gas, and Bolivia’s Yacimientos Petroli feros Fiscales Bolivianos are considering plans to export some of the country’s 6,000 Bcf in proven gas reserves to California markets.
