A summer of dueling over services and tolls on the crowded eastern end of TransCanada Corp.’s natural gas Mainline ended Friday in a deal to eliminate the cause of the fight by adding capacity.

TransCanada Corp. raised C$296 million in the first use of new freedom to charge as much as the market for transportation services will bear at the eastern end of its natural gas Mainline from Alberta to Ontario, Quebec and connections to the eastern United States.

After nine months of negotiations with shippers, Calgary-based TransCanada Corp. on Monday announced an agreement to maintain the services and finances status quo on its Nova natural gas pipeline grid in Alberta and British Columbia (BC).

Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line (Transco) is holding an open season for its Atlantic Sunrise project, which would provide between 450,000 and more than 1 million Dth/d of new, year-round firm transportation capacity by its proposed in-service date of July 1, 2017, the Williams subsidiary said in a notice posted Thursday. The open season is due to end Sept. 27.

Koch Pipeline Co. LP is holding a nonbinding open season for the Dakota Express Pipeline, which would carry crude oil from the Bakken Shale in western North Dakota to Hartford and Patoka, IL. A connection at Patoka to the Eastern Gulf Crude Access Pipeline to carry crude to Gulf Coast refineries is also contemplated.

Southern Natural Gas Co. LLC has asked the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for the green light to make modifications to three compressor stations on its mainline system: the DeArmanville Compressor Station and its Auburn and Selma stations.

TransCanada Corp.’s extensive infrastructure in Canada could be expanded and transformed with options to convert part of its natural gas mainline pipeline to carry crude oil and its western assets growing to include a possible interest in facilities for liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports, CEO Russ Girling said last week.
