Atlantic LNG Shutdown by Striking Tugboat Workers

Atlantic LNG, the largest source of liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports to the United States, shut down its three liquefaction trains on Monday because of striking construction and tugboat workers. There was no word on when the strike would be lifted or when shipments would resume.

Lawmaker Attacks Subsidies for Project to Promote LNG Shipments to West Coast

A $2 billion subsidy to help finance the construction of a new natural gas liquefaction facility and tankers to transport LNG to West Coast markets has been folded into a massive omnibus spending package that the House is expected to take up Monday (Dec. 8), according to Rep. Edward Markey (D-MA). A Senate vote on the $820 billion appropriations bill may not come until late January.

Trinidad’s Atlantic LNG Completes Expansion Project

Trinidad and Tobago’s Atlantic LNG completed its third liquefaction train, a 3.3 billion cubic meter/year facility that brings plant capacity to 12.8 Bcm/year (453 Bcf/year or about 1.2 Bcf/d). The addition of the third train marks the completion of a US$1.1 billion expansion that started in the first quarter of 2000. The first phase of that expansion, Train 2, was completed on Aug. 12, 2002.

ConocoPhillips, Bechtel Continue LNG Development

ConocoPhillips, operator of the long-running LNG liquefaction plant on the Kenai Peninsula, AK, announced it has renewed its agreement with Bechtel Corp. to collaborate in pursuing worldwide LNG projects.
