Five environmental and community organizations on Thursday asked a local state court to set aside a Kern County, CA, ordinance passed last month to fast-track oil/natural gas permits, alleging that it violates state laws related to environmental protection, planning and zoning.

Northeast Spikes Respond to Cold; Rest of Market Falls

Icy conditions building from the Midcontinent and Texas through the Southeast and heavy snowfalls predicted in the Northeast and Midwest failed to revive most of the cash market Thursday. Only Northeast citygates, where spikes were most often in triple digits, got a significant boost from the new blast of arctic cold enveloping most of North America.

California Storage Project Touts Successful Open Season

Tricor Ten Section Hub LLC said a nonbinding open season for its planned storage project in southern Kern County 10 miles southwest of Bakersfield, CA, which closed Sept. 30, resulted in “significant over subscription for firm service,” as well as additional bids for interruptible and hub services.

Occidental Touts ‘Significant’ Gas-Weighted Find in California

Occidental Petroleum Corp. made a “significant” discovery of oil and gas reserves in Kern County, CA, the company said Wednesday. Approximately two-thirds of the discovery is believed to be natural gas.
