CIG, Xcel Developing Gas Storage for Proposed High Plains Project

WYCO Development LLC, jointly owned by El Paso Corp.’s Colorado Interstate Gas (CIG) and Xcel Energy, said Wednesday it plans to develop and lease some new natural gas transportation and storage facilities in Colorado. The new facilities would support the proposed High Plains Pipeline Project, which launched open seasons in mid-January (see Daily GPI, Jan. 16).

Owners of Kenai Liquefaction Plant in AK File for License Extension

Marathon Oil Corp. and ConocoPhillips said they have jointly filed for a two-year extension of the Kenai liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility’s export license with the U.S. Department of Energy. The current license ends March 31, 2009 and this application would extend the export license through March 31, 2011.

Sempra, ProLiance Buy Salt Cavern Storage in LA

San Diego-based Sempra Energy’s pipeline unit and a subsidiary of Indiana-based ProLiance Energy jointly announced last week that they purchased three salt caverns in Cameron Parish, LA, representing the potential for 10-12 Bcf of natural gas storage capacity, from Richmond, VA-based Dominion. The purchase includes 150 acres of adjacent property carrying the potential for more storage capacity.

Sempra CA Utilities File General Rate Case Notice

Sempra Energy’s two California utilities last Tuesday informed the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) that they will be jointly filing a 2008 test year general rate case by Dec. 1, seeking a decision from regulators by the end of next year. Senior executives from the company downplayed the potential earnings impact of the case on a second-quarter conference call with financial analysts Thursday, stressing continued strong earnings from the utilities.

Berry Boosts Piceance Presence with EnCana Joint Development Deal

Berry Petroleum has significantly expanded its presence in the Piceance Basin through a new agreement with EnCana Oil & Gas (USA) Inc. to jointly develop a portion of EnCana’s North Parachute Ranch property in western Colorado. Berry will fund the drilling of 90 natural gas wells on EnCana’s valley lands and will acquire 4,300 gross acres elsewhere in the North Parachute Ranch property with a working interest of 95% and a net revenue interest of 79%.

Northern Border, Williams to Jointly Build NGL Pipeline

Northern Border Partners LP and a subsidiary of The Williams Cos. have agreed to jointly build a 750-mile natural gas liquids (NGL) pipeline from Opal, WY, to the Midcontinent gas liquids market center in Conway, KS. The pipeline will be designed to transport 110,000 bbl/d of NGL, and additional pump facilities would increase the capacity to 150,000 bbl/d.
