NW Natural promoted CFO David Anderson to executive vice president for operations and regulation. Anderson was a senior vice president/CFO with TXU Gas prior to joining NW Natural as its CFO in 2004. Marathon Oil Corp. COO David E. Roberts Jr. resigned effective Friday (Dec. 14) to “pursue other interests,” according to the company. Since joining the Houston-based producer in 2006, Roberts had been considered an important contributor to the upstream business. He was named senior vice president for business development and was promoted in 2008 to executive vice president of upstream, overseeing upstream and production. Roberts became COO when the company spun off its refining operations last year to become a pure-play explorer and was said to be on the short list to succeed CEO Clarence Calazot, 62. The company declined to offer further details.

Double Eagle Takes Bigger Stake in Atlantic Rim, Sells Wyoming Leases

Double Eagle Petroleum Co. said Tuesday it is joining Warren Resources Inc. to increase its stakes in Wyoming’s Atlantic Rim by acquiring some of Anadarko Petroleum Corp.’s remaining interests.

Amy Myers Jaffe is joining the University of California, Davis, in October as executive director of energy and sustainability in a joint appointment to the Graduate School of Management and Institute of Transportation Studies. Jaffe has spent the past 16 years at Houston’s Rice University, where she served as director of the Energy Forum at the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy. Kenneth Medlock, deputy director of the forum, was named the new director. Jaffe said she was drawn by the California university’s “focus on sustainability and the interdisciplinary research and relationships between transportation and energy, and by the opportunity to work near California’s state capital, which is an international pioneer on environmental and public policy issues.”

CME, ICE Evolve Ahead of Dodd-Frank Implementation

Joining the race to transition a fair amount of swaps and over the counter (OTC) business to a cleared futures model before more rules under the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform Act take hold in the coming months, CME Group last week launched a broad suite of new natural gas and power contracts that will be listed as futures on CME Globex, the New York Mercantile Exchange (Nymex) trading floor and CME ClearPort, and will be available for trading on CME Direct, a platform offering side-by-side trading and straight-through processing and clearing of exchange-listed and OTC energy markets.

Matador Weights 2012 Spending to Liquids-Rich Eagle Ford Shale

Joining the months-long trend in the industry of transitioning from dry natural gas targets to more liquids-rich plays due to market economics, Dallas-based Matador Resources Co. said recently its 2012 plans will target the Eagle Ford Shale of South Texas while ramping down the development of its Haynesville Shale acreage in North Louisiana.
