NYBOT Members ‘Overwhelmingly’ Approve ICE Merger

Voting to join the old with the new, members of the New York Board of Trade (NYBOT), a 136-year-old floor-based soft commodity exchange, voted overwhelmingly Monday to merge with the rapidly expanding IntercontinentalExchange (ICE), one of the newest and fastest growing electronic exchanges, in a $1 billion-plus proposed transaction.

Munis React to Futures Price Spike, Join Call for Daily Storage Reports

Municipals on the losing end of a price spike sparked by an erroneous storage report petitioned FERC commissioners Friday to act immediately to require daily storage reports. Joining industrial and chemical customers who issued their protests a day earlier, the American Public Gas Association (APGA) said consumers will pay almost a billion extra dollars for their natural gas in December due to the incorrect report, which was released just prior to Thanksgiving (see Daily GPI, Dec. 3).

Australia’s Woodside to Join Crystal Energy’s CA Offshore LNG Terminal Project

Looking for an experienced global industry player and perhaps indicating a shift of potential gas supply sources, Houston-based Crystal Energy, LLC, announced last week that it has an “in-principle agreement” with Australian-based Woodside (USA) Energy Inc. to develop Crystal’s proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving terminal off the coast of Oxnard along the part of Southern California’s coast dotted with offshore oil platforms. Crystal originally proposed bringing Alaskan gas supplies through its terminal.

Energy Consultants Join Forces to Expand Resources

IHS Energy, which specializes in analyzing energy exploration and production (E&P) data around the world, has acquired Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA), whose analysis covers energy markets, geopolitics, structure and strategy. The partnership, said the IHS Group subsidiary, will build on the companies’ joint resources to expand their database and operations support. No financial details were disclosed.

FPL Buys Option to Join El Paso’s Seafarer Pipeline, Bahamas LNG Project

El Paso Corp. subsidiaries have sold to an affiliate of FPL Group an option to purchase the development rights of the High Rock liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility on Grand Bahama Island. In addition, FPL Group Resources has obtained an option to purchase a 50% equity interest in the proposed Seafarer pipeline system that will transport natural gas from the proposed Bahamas LNG facility to southern Florida. Terms of the agreements were not disclosed.
