Peabody Group, the world’s largest coal company, on Friday soldits Citizens Power unit to a subsidiary of Edison International, aswell as selling its third-party power contracts. Peabody, owned byLehman Merchant Banking Partners, is expected to net about $100million from the two transactions, using the money to pay downdebt.

Panda Energy International inked a firm electrical transmissionagreement with Arizona Public Service to supply power from itsproposed natural gas-fired 2,000 MW plant to be located in the townof Gila Bend. The proposed plant is before the Arizona CorporationCommittee for review. Senior vice president of merchant plantdevelopment for Panda, Garry Hubbard, said that the firm contractis “a critical step forward for the plant.” The new plant is onschedule to commence construction later this year, with start up 18months later, he added. Powering the plant will be eight GeneralElectric 7 FA natural gas turbines operating in combined cycle.

Washington Group International has been awarded a turnkeyproject valued at more than $200 million to expand Louisiana Land& Exploration’s Lost Cabin Gas Plant facility in centralWyoming. The project will more than double the existing capacity ofthe plant. The new plant will be capable of processing 180 MMcf/dof gas, removing hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, elementalsulfur, and other impurities. LL&E is a wholly owned subsidiaryof Burlington Resources. “LL&E has had great success over thepast several years with this plant and the associated well drillingprogram,” said Washington Petroleum & Chemicals President BobWiesel. “The combination of growing demand, efficient operation,and reservoir volumes is creating the need for the plant to beexpanded again. We designed and built the original Train 1 and theTrain 2 expansion. We take it as a great sign of confidence thatLL&E has chosen us again for the larger Train 3 expansion.” Theraw gas to be processed in the plant comes from wells in the deepMadison Formation in the Madden field in central Wyoming.

Citing increased profits from energy trading and internationalprojects, San Diego-based Sempra Energy Thursday reported unauditedconsolidated net income of $110 million, a 34% increase overearnings in last year’s second quarter.
