Duke Inks Deal with Two Mitsubishi Plants in IL

Mitsubishi Motors Manufacturing of America (MMMA) announced itentered into a multi-year agreement with Duke Energy’sDukeSolutions Inc. last week to manage energy service forMitsubishi’s two-million-square-foot manufacturing plant in Normal,IL. Over the contract term, DukeSolutions will support up to $30million of energy expenditures for MMMA.

Mitsubishi Motors Manufacturing of America (MMMA) announced itentered into a multi-year agreement with Duke Energy’sDukeSolutions Inc. to manage energy service for Mitsubishi’stwo-million-square-foot manufacturing plant in Normal, IL. Over thecontract term, DukeSolutions will support up to $30 million ofenergy expenditures for MMMA. Duke is the third major integratedenergy company to enter into a multimillion dollar energymanagement deal this week, joining Sempra and FirstEnergy.

Enron Corp. and the American Public Energy Agency (APEA), aNebraska-based tax-exempt financing conduit for public powerentities, have struck a unique $295 million deal to supply about 32MMcf/d over four years to four municipal electric utilities inCalifornia and Washington.

CMP Natural Inks Gas Delivery Deal with Calpine

CMP Natural Gas (CMPNG) said it has signed a long-term contract to deliver gas on a proposed pipeline lateral to a 540 MW gas-fired power plant being built in Westbrook, ME, by Calpine Corp. Construction of the $200 million electric generating facility is under way and Calpine said it will require gas service by June 1, 2000.

Bay State Avoids Bypass, Inks Deal with Muni

Bay State Gas avoided a significant bypass by the MassachusettsMunicipal Wholesale Electric Co. (MMWEC) thanks to landowneropposition to a larger pipeline proposal and a lengthy negotiationprocess. After two years of work on an alternative 15-mile bypassof the Bay State system that would have linked with Tennessee GasPipe Line, MMWEC yesterday signed a 20-year agreement covering 13Bcf/year of new gas transportation on Bay State’s system to servepower generation load.

Under the dealSempra Energy Solutions will provide energy information and billingmanagement services for 718 retail outlets in 37 states.

Enron Inks Gas Deal Through Nonprofit Group

Enron Capital and Trade Resources currently is negotiating adeal with a Lincoln, NE-based nonprofit joint power agency to sellit wholesale bulk, multi-year gas supplies so the agency can inturn sell them at below-market prices to municipal utilities inCalifornia and other states. Brokered through the American PublicEnergy Agency (APEA), supplies would be paid for in advance atdiscounted prices using the APEA tax-exempt financing capability.
