Sempra Inks $1.4B Gas Deal with Mexican Electricity Agency

Sempra Energy signed a 15-year, $1.4 billion natural gas supply contract with Mexico’s electricity commission, Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE), on Tuesday. The deal calls for Sempra to provide about 130 MMcf/d of gas to the CRE’s power plants in northern Baja California, including the Presidente Juarez power plant in Rosarito.

ConocoPhillips Inks MOU with Gazprom to Develop Barents Field, Supply LNG to U.S.

In its second major announcement in less than three months, Russian super major Gazprom signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) last week with Houston-based ConocoPhillips to study development of the Shtokman natural gas field in the Barents Sea. Under the agreement, Gazprom eventually may supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to import terminals in the United States.

Niagara Mohawk Inks Supply Portfolio Management Deal with NJR Subsidiary

Syracuse-based combination utility Niagara Mohawk, which provides natural gas to nearly 560,000 customers and power to 1.5 million customers in upstate New York, has signed an 11-month natural gas portfolio management agreement with New Jersey Resources subsidiary NJR Energy Services (NJRES). Most of the terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Total Inks 20-Year Deal for 1 Bcf/d of Sendout Capacity at Sabine Pass LNG Terminal

A subsidiary of Paris-based E&P giant Total has signed a 20-year agreement with Cheniere Energy Inc. for 1 Bcf/d of regasification capacity at the proposed Sabine Pass, LA, liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal, which received a favorable draft environmental review by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission last month (see Daily GPI, Aug. 13).

AGL Resources subsidiary Sequent Energy Management said it has signed a three-year agreement to supply gas to and manage the natural gas transportation and storage assets of Roanoke Gas Co. and Bluefield Gas Co., two utility affiliates of RGC Resources that serve about 58,100 residential, commercial and industrial customers in Virginia and West Virginia.
