PG&E Won’t Rebuild Failed Pipeline in Same Area

In response to the mayor of San Bruno’s inquiry, Pacific Gas and Electric Co. (PG&E) committed last Friday to reroute the repaired 30-inch diameter transmission pipeline that failed Sept. 9 in a suburban San Bruno, CA, neighborhood killing eight people. The repaired pipeline will be moved away from the devastated area where 37 homes were destroyed and many others damaged.

Futures Still Knocking on $4 Door as Uptick Continues

October natural gas futures continued to inch higher Wednesday, lending more credibility with each passing day that the market’s seasonal low is already in the books. The prompt-month contract breached psychological resistance at $4 for a second session in a row before closing at $3.995, up 2.9 cents from Tuesday’s finish.

Williams Drops Northwest Pipeline Expansion

Reflecting conditions of depressed demand and surplus supplies in the Pacific Northwest, Williams’ Northwest Pipeline Co. has decided to halt plans for a 172-mile extension of 36- and 30-inch diameter pipelines that was set to provide another 500 MMcf/d of capacity into the region’s Interstate 5 corridor.

Three Hurt in Oklahoma Gathering Pipeline Blast

Three workers were injured when a 20-inch diameter gas gathering pipeline owned by OGE Energy Corp. unit Enogex exploded at about 11 a.m. CDT Tuesday about 50 miles southwest of Oklahoma City, OK, the company told NGI.

CenterPoint Offering Capacity from Haynesville Shale

CenterPoint Energy Gas Transmission Co, (CEGT) is holding a nonbinding open season through June 18 for potential expansion of its nearly 1.9 Bcf/d, 42-inch diameter Carthage to Perryville (Line CP) pipeline. The expansion would support growing Haynesville Shale production by providing delivery into the Perryville Hub and to the Carthage area.

Transportation Notes

Transco reported finding a leak on its 24-inch diameter mainline in Kleberg County, TX, and said Monday the impacted segment had been isolated to assess damage and determine repair plans. Seven meters in the area have been shut in until further notice.

FERC Approves Major Haynesville Shale Pipeline

FERC has approved ETC Tiger Pipeline Co.’s proposal to build a 175-mile, 42-inch diameter pipeline to provide producers with up to 2 Bcf/d of takeaway capacity from the Haynesville Shale in East Texas and Northwest Louisiana.
