Another study is under way to look at hydraulic fracturing (fracking) and increased seismic activity in an urban oilfield sitting in a hilly southwest residential portion of Los Angeles. The producer in the crosshairs of skeptics, Plains Exploration and Production Co. (PXP), is undaunted in its efforts to try to make increased drilling activity in a mostly residential area work, according to local news reports.

Surf’s Up; Hollywood Celebs Turn Out to Protest CA LNG Plans
Hollywood celebrities and surfers paddled off a Mailbu, CA, beach on Oct. 22, to protest plans for offshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving terminals off the Southern California coast as one of the proponents, Australia-based BHP Billiton moved closer to a final joint state/federal environmental impact assessment on the proposed Cabrillio Port terminal.
