Consumer Groups Protest at EEI Annual Meeting

A group of about 20 consumer activists, complaining of highcompensation for utility executives and excessive bail-out costs oftheir companies, attempted to disrupt the annual meeting of theEdison Electric Institute in Chicago Monday.

June Futures Break Higher Early, Fall Back Late

After breaking out of its downward trading channel and reachinga high of $2.24, the June Nymex contract fell back considerablyFriday and settled the day up only 0.8 cents to $2.167. Strongtechnical buying and position covering ahead of the weekend seemedto spearhead the rally, but the door to even higher prices slammedshut not long before the closing bell.

Mitchell Energy & Development replaced 187% percent of thegas and oil reserves it produced in fiscal 1998, even while settinga new high for annual gas sales of 238 MMcf/d.

Florida Gas Transmission said Thursday it was experiencing”extremely high” linepack and that Operational Flow Orders would beissued to customers taking less than scheduled volumes. Otheroperational tools such as an Alert Day notice were also beingconsidered, the pipeline said.
