Correction

In the headline of a story published Jan. 2, “DOE Identifies 2.4B Metric Tons of CO2 Storage Capacity” (see Daily GPI, Jan. 2), the amount of possible carbon dioxide (CO2) storage capacity in U.S. saline formations, oil and gas reservoirs and unmineable coal seams was incorrectly stated. The Department of Energy report actually identified 2.4 trillion metric tons of CO2 storage capacity. NGI regrets the error.

Chesapeake Claims ‘Unprecedented Negative Media,’ Then Pulls Statement

A new investor presentation posted early Tuesday by Chesapeake Energy Corp. included a full-page statement by the company with the headline, “It’s been a tough five weeks, but better days ahead.” By Tuesday afternoon, the statement, originally the second page of the 32-page presentation, had been deleted with no explanation by the company.

Northeast Plunges Lead Dips at Nearly All Points

Generally moderating forecasts for Friday that had The Weather Channel’s website asking “Late December…or Fall?” in its daily headline Thursday were a factor in Northeast quotes joining the softening trend that had begun on the previous day in the rest of the market. A small prior-day futures loss contributed a bit to downturns by all but a couple of trading locations.

As Smoke Clears Investigators Look for Cause of PG&E Pipe Blast

More than a week after an exploding natural gas pipeline ripped through a residential neighborhood in the San Francisco Bay Area, natural gas remained a headline-grabber, involving speculation about city sewer work and oil liquids in the pipeline somehow contributing to the explosion and fire, not to mention various politicians proposing new safety measures. With the heightened attention, routine gas utility distribution pipeline breaks and reports of gas odors were being elevated to the status of potential major news events.
