TECO/Panda Break Ground on 2,300 MW Gila Monster
Tampa-based TECO Power Services and Panda Energy International announced on Thursday that they have begun initial construction and site preparation work on their 2,300 MW Gila River power station in Gila Bend, AZ. The companies will build the project under a joint venture agreement.

As exploration and production companies scurry to extract higher volumes of natural gas from the ground to meet the nation’s voracious demand, coalbed methane production in the Powder River Basin of Wyoming and southern Montana continues to increase as conservative estimates of the basin’s reserves from the late 1980s through the mid-1990s continue to fall by the wayside, according to Energy and Environmental Analysis (EEA).
Most of West Slides, But East Points Hold Ground
The week’s market activity came to a quiet close Friday with prices at most eastern points and Permian/Waha hovering on either side of flat, but with a slight bias to the upside. Western markets were generally softer, with California once again way out in front, leading a downhill charge.
