After gapping dramatically lower on the open, natural gasfutures took on the trajectory of a safe pushed out of a ten-storywindow yesterday as the market dropped to its lowest level sinceNov. 29. The expiring February contract was the hardest hit by theselling, crashing 96.3 cents lower to close at $6.293. The outmonths did not fair much better, as the 12-month strip tumbled$0.49 lower to close at $5.563.

As of Wednesday until further notice, Northwest shippers withprimary corridor rights southbound through Kemmerer (WY) Station arerequired to flow up to 10% of their contract demand from receiptpoints north of Kemmerer. That represents a reduction from 25% thathad been in effect since Dec. 15 (see Daily GPI, Dec. 18).
Most Points Moderately Softer, and A Few Manage Gains
The cash market both calmed down and went further down in mostcases in Thursday’s activity. A majority of points ranged from flatto about 30 cents lower. The notable exceptions were declines ofabout 40 cents or more in California and Transco/Texas Easterncitygates in the Northeast, and on the opposite side of the coinwere gains in the Pacific Northwest and on some Rockies pipes.

Mountain Energy to Stop Supplying Midwest Customers
Mountain Energy Corp., the Midwest gas marketer that has been besieged by lawsuits and a petition seeking to force it into bankruptcy, last week notified its customers in Kansas and Missouri that it will stop supplying them with natural gas after Oct. 31.

An Overage Alert Day notice remained in effect Monday until furthernotice for the Florida Gas Transmission system (see Daily GPI, Sept. 25). The tolerance for negative dailyimbalances had been loosened to 15%.
