Clean Energy Expands Natgas Transport Offerings

Seal Beach, CA-based Clean Energy Fuels Corp. has made two deals to expand its market reach nationally, entering a securities purchase agreement to acquire fueling technology provider Wyoming Northstar Inc. for $10.9 million in cash, and through a subsidiary inking an agreement with a New Jersey-based alternative fuel vehicle manufacturer, Clean Vehicle Solutions LLC, to provide compressed natural gas (CNG) systems for the small vehicle makers’ products.

Gas Transportation Fuel Firm Makes $125M Acquisition

Seal Beach, CA-based Clean Energy Fuels Corp. and privately held IMW Industries Ltd. announced Wednesday they have signed a definitive agreement for Clean Energy to acquire IMW for $125 million, plus a cash earn-out arrangement. IMW makes fueling compressors and related equipment used in stations developed by Clean Energy and its clients.

Seal Beach, CA-based Clean Energy Fuels Corp. announced that it has signed a 10-year contract with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transit Authority to upgrade, operate and maintain the transit unit’s compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling stations. The county has the largest clean-air bus fleet in the nation, with CNG-powered buses representing about 95% of the fleet. Clean Energy said that during the next 12 months it will rework and upgrade the CNG station compressor equipment at stations in the transit authority’s Central and South Bay divisions, where the fuel requirement is expected to be about nine million gallons annually. The county transit unit obtained federal stimulus package funding last year for the CNG station upgrade. Across America Clean Energy is partnering with many major public transit agencies, fueling more than 5,000 clean-air buses, about half of which are in the Los Angeles County fleet.

Clean Energy Signs CNG Deal with SuperShuttle

Seal Beach, CA-based Clean Energy Fuels Corp. announced Monday it has signed a five-year contract with SuperShuttle International to provide it with compressed natural gas (CNG) for its vehicles at major airports throughout the United States. SuperShuttle has been operating with natural gas-powered shared-ride vehicles since 1995.

Clean Energy Fuels Corp. will construct and operate two compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicle fueling stations in the New York City area, the company said. The first station will be in Queens, and the second will open adjacent to Newark, NJ’s Liberty International Airport. Designed to support growing fleets of CNG taxis, limousines and paratransit vehicles, the Queens and Newark Airport stations will also be available 24 hours a day for public access. The Queens facility is to be built on property owned by New York City’s largest taxi fleet owner. Construction is set to begin in May with a targeted opening slated for fall. The Newark Airport station is to be co-located with a new convenience store. The Clean Energy/Newark Airport Plaza CNG station is scheduled to open in June. Clean Energy has a CNG station at LaGuardia Airport and has assumed management of four of National Grid’s CNG stations in the New York metropolitan area, including the station at John F. Kennedy International Airport. The Seal Beach, CA-based company recently struck a fleet deal with AT&T (see Daily GPI, April 5).

Clean Energy to Run National Grid, AT&T CNG Stations

Clean Energy Fuels Corp. officials said last week they should take over compressed natural gas (CNG) station management responsibilities from National Grid in early spring with implementation of “a thorough transition plan” with existing CNG fleet customers. Clean Energy also said it would expand the station network.
