Cool fall weather and rapid breakdown of the storm formerlyknown as Hurricane Gordon were enough to take the wind out of thecash market’s sails yesterday as prices plummeted across the board.

By Monday afternoon, the evacuated offshore workers hadbeen returned to their rigs and power lost in Florida communitieshad been restored.

In keeping with the consolidation of the natural gas industry,the boards of directors of GRI (formerly Gas Research Institute)and the Institute of Gas Technology (IGT), the leading energyresearch organizations, last week announced they approved inprinciple a combination of the two organizations. The boards areexpected to meet again today (April 24) to give their final stampof approval to the deal.

Dominion Transmission (formerly CNG) is conducting an openseason to solicit interest in high-deliverability, firm,market-area storage to be available in 2003. The highdeliverability storage (HDS) project “includes up to 12 turns peryear, 10-day withdrawal and is competitively priced,” Dominionsaid. “We developed HDS to meet the needs of the evolving,fast-growing, peaking market,” said Paul Koonce, senior vicepresident for Dominion Generation. The open season runs from April3 to May 31, 2000. Dominion’s system offers key delivery pointssuch as its North and South points; numerous LDC citygates; andother pipelines, including Texas Eastern at Leidy and Oakford;Tennessee at Cornwell, Petersburg, Gilmore, Harrison, Ellisburg andBrookview; and Transco at Leidy and Nokesville.

The cash market returned to the formerly unusual occurrence ofrising weekend prices Friday. It’s not so unusual any more afterthree of the last four Fridays saw general increases.

Mary Doyle, formerly policy advisor for FERC CommissionerWilliam I. Massey, has been named director of regulatory policy forDynegy Inc. Doyle also served in the gas pipeline rates division atFERC through the gas restructuring process.
