Columbia Gas of Virginia filed a motion with the Virginia StateCorporation Commission (SCC) last week to extend its pilot programthrough Oct. 1, 2000. The two-year program is set to expire inOctober of this year. The SCC said no date has been set for aruling on the filing.

Transwestern Pipeline has filed an application with FERC tobuild a new 10,000 hp compressor station near Thoreau, NM, off ofits San Juan Lateral and to add facilities to its Bloomfield and LaPlata compressor stations. The $11.6 million project will providean additional 50 MMcf/d of firm transportation service on the SanJuan Lateral downstream of the Bloomfield compressor station andwill allow Transwestern to operate its mainline at its certificatedcapacity of 1.1 Bcf/d on a firm basis.

In order to keep pace with Maryland gas deregulation, WashingtonGas filed a rate plan with the Maryland Public Service Commission(MPSC) last week, proposing a five-year rate freeze and credits oncustomer bills if the company’s return on equity (ROE) exceeds 12%.Washington Gas hopes to have the filing approved this fall.

South Jersey Gas Co. filed a petition with New Jersey’s Board ofPublic Utilities (BPU) to increase eligibility in its customerchoice pilot program from 25,000 to 50,000. The announcement marksthe second time in the past 12 months the utility has increased thesize of its pilot. The BPU has set Dec. 31 as a deadline to definecomplete statewide gas deregulation. South Jersey said 22,000customers have participated in the program. The utility serves260,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers in thestate.

Based on comments filed by trade associations last week, thenatural gas industry is split straight down the middle on most ofthe major initiatives in the notice of proposed rulemaking (NOPR)and notice of inquiry (NOI) – with the regulated pipelines and LDCssupporting proposals that would lighten FERC’s grip on pipelinetransportation, and non-regulated producers, marketers andmunicipal distributors concerned the measures could wreak havoc.
