Three days of fiery debate in the Senate on the Obama administration’s energy policies came to a quiet end Thursday with the defeat of a Democratic-sponsored bill that proposed rolling back billions of dollars in tax breaks for oil and natural gas producers.

The fireworks that fill the air at the beginning of July may be just a prelude to the fiery temperatures that are forecast to bathe most of the western states and a portion of the Northeast next month, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Climate Prediction Center reported in its monthly outlook last Thursday. The Midwest, meanwhile, may escape the hellish heat and could see below-normal temperatures.

The use of so-called “conservative assumptions” in the study done for FERC on LNG tanker safety has resulted in “unrealistic potential consequences that may unduly alarm the public,” the Center for Liquefied Natural Gas (CLNG) said last week.
