No Follow-Through from Supportive Storage Report; November Eases

November natural gas inched lower Friday as buying momentum from Thursday faded and traders continued to focus on a market burdened by a host of negative supply-demand factors. They suggested that prices could work nearly 40 cents lower from present levels. At the close November had drifted 0.1 cent lower to $3.629 and December had fallen 0.8 cent to $3.826. December crude oil gained $1.33 to $87.40/bbl.

Hope that 11 missing crew members from drilling rig Deepwater Horizon would be found had mostly faded by Friday morning although rescuers continued to search. While some feared an environmental catastrophe, oil sheen on the Gulf of Mexico appeared to be from the explosion and not a leaking well, officials said.

Gas Use, Lawsuits Eyed After CA Gov. Signs Global Warming Bills

Questions about the impact on natural gas volumes/prices and legal challenges lingered as the applause faded and California energy stakeholders faced a multi-year implementation process for the state’s landmark global warming laws signed last week by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. Pressure on already tight natural gas supplies and wholesale prices could result from the new law, according to the head of the Industrial Energy Consumers of America.
