Duke Gets NEB OK to Expand Fort Nelson Plant

Duke Energy Gas Transmission (DEGT) received National Energy Board (NEB) authorization to operate its expanded Fort Nelson natural gas processing plant in northeastern British Columbia. The expansion added 88 MMcf/d of processing capacity, bringing total capacity to 878 MMcf/d. The plant processes gas from fields in the Fort Nelson area, the southern Northwest Territories and the Yukon.

PGW Expands Gas Choice Program

Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) said its customer choice program has been expanded, allowing another 100 commercial and industrial customers to choose from alternative suppliers. Under the Natural Gas Choice Act of 1999, all of PGW’s 520,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers will be able to choose their natural gas supplier in September 2003.

SoCalGas Sees Tight Spots Despite 20% Slack Capacity

Within the larger context of expanded capacity and a newly unbundling transmission/storage system, Sempra Energy’s Southern California Gas Co. utility has identified potential future constraints on its intrastate transmission pipeline system in the Imperial and San Joaquin Valleys where power plants and large industrial customers operate. These areas are potentially tight only on a seasonal basis, such as the summer in Imperial and winter in the San Joaquin valley, according to SoCalGas’ Steve Watson, capacity planning manager, who spoke Tuesday at a GasMart/Power panel discussion in Reno.

Shell Gas & Power said last week it has entered into a binding precedent agreement to acquire all of the new capacity offered by Southern LNG in its recently concluded open season to expand its Elba Island liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal near Savannah, GA.
