Cash Strengthens Along With Isaac, But Futures Slide

Cash quotes overall averaged about 2 cents higher Monday as East and Northeast points were forecast to endure a slight warming but other areas of the country such as the Midcontinent saw nominal price changes. Futures markets seemed little fazed by the building Tropical Storm Isaac and at the close September had shed 4.9 cents to $2.653 and October had dropped 6.1 cents to $2.673. October crude oil fell 68 cents to $95.47/bbl.

California Points Steady, Northeast Plunges, and Futures Creep Lower

Physical natural gas prices across the country retreated on average by about 7 cents Monday, but Northeast locations had to endure double-digit losses, and in southern California prices were flat to a couple of cents higher. At the close of futures trading the April contract was down by 5.5 cents to $2.269 and May futures had fallen 5.2 cents to $2.373. April crude oil dropped $1.06 to $106.34/bbl.

Bears Take a Hit After Thin Storage Report; December Gains

December natural gas rose Thursday as market bears had to endure the indignity of a government inventory report sharply lower than what was expected. In its 10:30 a.m. EST report the Energy Information Administration (EIA) said inventories rose by just 19 Bcf for the week ended Nov. 11, about 7 Bcf less than what traders were looking for. At the close December had risen 6.6 cents to $3.410 and January had gained 6.3 cents to $3.546. December crude oil plunged $3.77 to $98.82/bbl.
