Dynegy Inc. and Mirant Corp. both saw results improve in the first quarter of 2006. While one company embraces commodity price hedging and the other avoids it, both are looking for growth opportunities in the months ahead, which could mean generation asset acquisitions in the offing.

DOE Embraces Hydrogen, Turns Cold Shoulder to Natural Gas as Vehicle Fuel
Natural gas-fueled vehicles (NGVs) are out, and hydrogen fuel-celled vehicles (FCV) are in. Southern Company Energy Marketing and Utility.com formed apartnership to provide Southern’s wholesale electricity toUtility.com’s customers via the Internet. Southern Company EnergyMarketing (SCEM) will become the preferred wholesale electricityprovider to Utility.com. Southern also has taken an equity stake inUtility.com, with the right to make an additional investment insubsequent private financings.
