Marauder Resources Enters Farm-in Pact with Encana Offshore Nova Scotia

Marauder Resources East Coast Inc. has executed a farm-in agreement with Encana to participate in the drilling of an exploratory natural gas well, Dominion J-14, located in the Grand Pre Block, offshore Nova Scotia in the same area as the earlier successful Deep Panuke discoveries.

FERC Approves Settlement Between New York PSC, Dominion Transmission

The New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) announced Wednesday that FERC has approved a settlement between the PSC and Dominion Transmission Inc. (DTI) that will provide $11 million in annual savings to New York State’s natural gas utilities and customers.

Dominion said interruptible and secondary deliveries were restored Thursday at the following market-area points: Corning Natural Gas, New York State Electric and Gas, Rochester Gas & Electric, Niagara Mohawk, Fillmore Gas and National Fuel Gas Distribution. Those services had been suspended Jan. 18 due to anticipated weather load (see Daily GPI, Jan. 18).

Two LNG Projects Ink Construction Contracts

Construction contracts for two major LNG projects were awarded last week. Dominion Resources handed the 800 MMcf/d Cove Point expansion project to The Woodlands, TX-based CB&I, which built some of the existing facilities at Cove Point, MD, and Cheniere Energy awarded a contract to build its Sabine Pass LNG terminal to San Francisco-based Bechtel.

FERC has given Dominion Cove Point LNG LP the green light to begin commercial operation of a new fifth storage tank at its liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal on the eastern shore of Maryland. With the new tank, the facility’s LNG storage capacity will be expanded to 7.8 Bcf from its current capacity of 5 Bcf. The company plans to add two or three more tanks later to accommodate volumes for Statoil, bringing total storage capacity to 14.6 Bcf. It also plans to expand current vaporization of 1 Bcf/d to 1.8 Bcf/d.

Gas Companies Aid Salvation Army in Western Pennsylvania Flood Relief

A unique coalition of the major natural gas companies of southwestern Pennsylvania — Equitable Resources, Dominion Resources, Columbia Gas and T.W. Phillips — has joined The Salvation Army, Conservation Consultants Inc., Lowe’s Home Improvement Centers and Plumbers’ Union locals to provide, and where possible install, hot water heaters for residents who lost theirs in the recent flooding caused by parts of Hurricane Ivan, which raged through western Pennsylvania two weeks ago.
