PG&E Utility Doles Out $113 Million in Franchise Fees

Following last week’s payment of $75 million in local property taxes, bankrupt Pacific Gas and Electric Co. announced Monday that it had paid $113 million in 2002 franchise fees to 290 cities and counties in which it operates over the northern two-thirds of California.

PG&E Doles Out $75 Million in Property Taxes

For the second year in succession while still embedded in Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, Pacific Gas and Electric Co. announced Tuesday it has doled out $75 million in local property tax payments to 49 California counties, the largest payment being $11.8 million to San Luis Obispo County along the central coast in which the utility’s massive Diablo Canyon Nuclear Generating Plant is located.

MMS Doles Out $318 Million to 32 States in First Six Months of 2002

Updating its activities over the first six months of the year, the Department of the Interior’s Minerals Management Service (MMS) said that despite a four-month, court-ordered computer network shutdown, the government agency has distributed more than $318 million to 32 states during the first six months of 2002.
