Deliveries

Transportation Notes

Responding to interest expressed in firm deliveries from CIG to the new Cheyenne Plains system (see Daily GPI, Dec. 11, 2002), CIG is holding a binding open season through March 20 to solicit new firm compression agreements. Such agreements are required to support additional compression in the Cheyenne, WY area that would allow volumes to be delivered from the lower-pressure CIG system into Cheyenne Plains or other high-pressure systems near Cheyenne. It is anticipated that the new compression would be in service by August 2005, which is the anticipated in-service date of the Cheyenne Plains system. See the bulletin board for details, or call Greg Ruben at (719) 520-4870 for more information.

NYC Prices Top $7 in Heat-Driven Price Surge

Quotes for Transco Zone 6-New York City deliveries soared as high as $7.50 Monday as Northeast electric utilities struggled to cope with high temperatures that generated heat advisories throughout much of the area. The heat sparked the PJM Interconnection grid operator to issue a plea for emergency supplies and sparked a run-up in Nepool (New England) and PJM-West power prices for Tuesday to averages of about $116/MWh in each pool, according to the IntercontinentalExchange trading platform. New York and PJM websites showed hourly prices spiking occasionally up to the $1,000/MWh price cap.

Study Finds Gas Could Become Global Commodity by 2025 Via LNG

The rebirth of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as an economic alternative for new deliveries most likely will significantly alter the trading patterns of natural gas within 25 years, ultimately transforming gas into a globally traded commodity, similar to how oil is traded worldwide today, according to a new study by economic consultant DRI-WEFA. This shift in trading patterns, said the authors, will improve the security of supply and maintain gas prices, which will be driven by the U.S. benchmark price.
