Major integrated oil company leaders and energy ministers from 25 natural gas producing countries around the globe converged on Washington last week for an OPEC-like summit to promote cooperation in a worldwide LNG market predicted to rival the oil market. The United States will be the dominant consumer.

Cash Market Bows to Mild Weather, Screen Weakness

Major influences converged to push swing prices lower by about a nickel to just over 20 cents at nearly all points Wednesday: the screen followed up Tuesday afternoon’s decline with even greater expiration-day weakness, and mild late-summer weather virtually everywhere outside the southern edge of the U.S. could no longer be ignored as it had been earlier in the week.

GISB Expansion Would Include Power Standards

Acknowledging that the natural gas industry had converged to a point with the power industry where it is now one energy industry, the Gas Industry Standards Board (GISB) has adopted a working model for a new organization that would set the rules and practices for wholesale and retail electricity along with natural gas markets. By a unanimous 25-0 vote, GISB formally expanded its purpose to permit the “consideration of electric wholesale and retail standards and model business practices.”
