TransCanada Files 1999 Capacity Additions

TransCanada PipeLines will be continuing its steady pace ofexpansions with a $984 million construction program in 1999 to add275 MMcf/d in delivery capacity to eastern Canada and the U.S.Midwest and Northeast.

Canadian Gas Accord Leaves Voyageur in Limbo

The major accord signed by Canadian gas industry stakeholders lastweek that virtually assures construction of the Alliance Pipelineproject (See GPI Daily, April 9) hasmade the fate of the competing 1.4 Bcf/d Viking Voyageur projectextremely doubtful. Voyageur sponsors TransCanada PipeLines andNorthern States Power were in meetings all day Monday and Tuesday andan announcement is expected later this week. One Voyageur officialsaid all options are possible, including shelving the 800-milepipeline project.

Transportation Note

Transwestern said its La Plata compressor station will be downthrough Thursday, March 5, for construction. There will be zerovolumes flowing from the Ignacio area to the Blanco Hub.Interconnects affected are NWPL-La Plata, WFS Ignacio Plant, andAmoco Florida River Plant. Capacity from the Blanco Hub to Thoreauwill remain at 800,000 MMcf/d. The same scenario also will applyMarch 28 through 31, Transwestern said.
