EPA Plans Fracking Field Work This Summer

As part of its congressionally mandated study of hydraulic fracturing (fracking), the Environmental Production Agency (EPA) Wednesday said it plans to conduct field work in various regions of the country starting this summer to determine the potential impacts of fracking on drinking water sources (see Daily GPI, March 22, 2010).

FERC Finalizes Rules on PUHCA Repeal

FERC late Thursday said it finalized rules to implement the Congressionally-mandated repeal of the Public Utility Holding Company Act (PUHCA) of 1935 and enactment of the Public Utility Holding Company Act of 2005, or PUHCA 2005.

States Sue U.S. DOE Over Energy Saving Standards

A coalition of 15 states and the city of New York on Wednesday sued the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for what they said were violations of Congressionally enacted mandates to adopt stronger energy saving standards for 22 common appliances that use large amounts of electricity, natural gas and oil.

MMS Solicits Comments to Develop Five-Year Lease Plan

As part of the process to develop its next five-year leasing program and carry out a congressionally mandated inventory of Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) energy resources, the Bush administration is asking the public to comment on whether existing moratoria on offshore oil and natural gas drilling should be “modified or expanded” to allow interested states to explore off of their coasts, and whether the government should work with Congress to develop natural gas-only leases.
