After successfully completing a non-binding open season on Sept.21, for the Western Frontier project, Williams’ gas pipeline unitplans to hold a binding open season in the near future to gauge theexact market interest in the project that would transport gassupply from the Rockies to the mid-continent region.

Transportation Notes

NGPL said it is completing all work on the offshore Texas HighIsland Block 71 Lateral and the line will become available for serviceagain today. A leak was discovered Aug. 16 and about 50 MMcf/d ofproduction from three receipt points was scheduled to zero effectiveAug. 18 (see Daily GPI, Aug. 23). NGPLwill begin scheduling gas for the High Island 71 (Torch) and HighIsland 116 (Vasgas) wells today. However, the High Island 139 (Sonat)well has been disconnected and is under evaluation at this time, sountil further notice the pipeline will not schedule gas there.

Light Selling Escorts May to Expiration

Completing its quietest last-three-day settlement period inrecent history, natural gas futures moved higher early yesterdayonly to drift lower throughout the afternoon as traders lightenedtheir long exposures. The expiring May contract finished 2.1 centslower at $3.089, but for many the real story was the rest of thesummer strip which slipped an average of 2.9 cents. Estimatedvolume was light for an expiration day with only 90,843 contractschanging hands.

MidAmerican Steps Up IL Activity as Merger Nears Finish Line

Last week was busy for MidAmerican Energy Holdings, as it movedcloser to completing its sale to Berkshire Hathaway Inc. while alsoannouncing intentions to step up efforts in Illinois’ retail energymarket. Once the merger is finalized, the parent of a utilityserving 653,000 electric customers and 622,000 gas customers inIowa and Illinois will become a privately-held company.

Nova Scotia Picks Sempra to Distribute Gas

Taking a giant step toward successfully completing a 10-monthquest, Sempra Energy announced last week that the Nova ScotiaUtility and Review Board (URB) has said it will recommend SempraAtlantic Gas as the province’s first-ever gas distributor. Theprovincial government, which has the final say in the matter, saidit would issue a decision in the next three weeks.

Florida Gas Transmission reported completing a maintenance projecton its East White Lake Lateral in southwestern Louisiana well ahead ofschedule and said volumes will be restored to 450,000 MMBtu/d on thelateral’s south end and to 150,000 MMBtu/d on the north end effectivewith the Nov. 24 gas day. The work originally had been expected tolast through Dec. 10 (see Daily GPI, Oct. 19).
