Futures Remain Range-Bound; All Eyes on Weather

After trading lower than Thursday’s close for the entire morning Friday, August natural gas futures did a complete reversal in the afternoon. After recording a $5.880 low early in the day and a high of $6.150 late in the session, the prompt month ended up at $6.139, up 4.8 cents on the day, but 20.8 cents lower than the previous week’s close.

According to the Andover, MA-based weather forecasting and business solution provider, the May-July period should average above normal temperatures for a majority of the U.S., except for the East.

Lehman Brothers Takes One-Third Interest in Marketer Eagle Energy

Lehman Brothers Merchant Banking is taking a one-third interest in Houston-based energy marketer Eagle Energy Partners. When the deal is complete Lehman, producer Chesapeake Energy, and Eagle management each will own one-third of the company.

FERC Extends Deadline for Gas Project Construction Under Relaxed Blanket Rules

FERC on Wednesday gave the natural gas industry four additional months — to Feb. 28, 2007 — to complete the construction of pipelines and other infrastructure projects under the agency’s relaxed blanket-certificate rules. The agency relaxed the regulations in late 2005 to help with the rebuilding of energy facilities along the hurricane-battered Gulf Coast region.
