NY PSC Okays LIPA’s Replacement NY-CT Submarine Transmission Line

The New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) voted last week to issue a certificate of environmental compatibility and public need to the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) to construct and operate a replacement 138-kilovolt, 11-mile submarine electric transmission line between Northport, NY, and Norwalk, CT. More important, the commission viewed the smooth planning and approval process as proof that the state doesn’t need federal guidance on infrastructure issues.
